PVDF membrane, namely polyvinylidene fluoride membrane (polyvinylidenefluoride) is a commonly used solid support in Western blotting. PVDF membrane is hydrophobic, the membrane pore size has a large and small, with the membrane pore size continues to decrease, the membrane on the low molecular weight protein binding more firmly. The membrane of 0.45um is selected for proteins larger than 20000, and the membrane of 0.2um is selected for proteins smaller than 20000. The PVDF membrane needs to be pre-treated when it is used. The purpose of the treatment with methanol is to activate the positive groups on the membrane and make it easier to bind to the negatively charged protein. PVDF membrane has high mechanical strength and is an ideal solid support material for imprinting.
