PTFE and FEP to choose which, depending on the user's needs. PTFE commonly used color is milky white, followed by translucent and color, has not yet invented transparent. FEP replaces the disadvantages of PTFE, and FEP is commonly used in transparent colors.
In addition to color substitution, their temperature resistance is somewhat different. PTFE has a high temperature resistance of 260 degrees and FEP has a high temperature resistance of 200 degrees. If a transparent tube is needed and the high temperature resistance reaches 260 degrees, PFA can be used instead.
Below, to introduce the difference between PTFE and FEP.
Polytetrafluoroethylene (Poly tetra fluoroethylene, abbreviated as PTFE) is generally referred to as "non-stick coating" or "easy-to-clean material". This material has the characteristics of acid and alkali resistance, resistance to various organic solvents, and is almost insoluble in all solvents. At the same time, PTFE has the characteristics of high temperature resistance, its coefficient of friction is very low, so it can be used for lubrication, but also become an ideal coating for easy cleaning of the inner layer of the water pipe.
The mechanical properties of polytetrafluoroethylene are relatively soft. It has a very low surface energy. PTFE has a series of excellent performance:
High temperature resistance: long-term use temperature 200~260 degrees;
Low temperature resistance: still soft at -100 degrees;
Corrosion resistance: able to aqua regia and all organic solvents;
Weather resistance: the best aging life in plastics;
High lubrication: with the smallest coefficient of friction in plastics (0.04);
Non-stickiness: has the smallest surface tension in solid materials without adhering to any substance;
Non-toxic: physiologically inert; Excellent electrical performance, is an ideal C- class insulation material, a thick layer of newspaper can block 1500V high voltage; Smooth than ice.
The coefficient of friction of polytetrafluoroethylene is extremely small, only 1/5 of that of polyethylene, which is an important feature of perfluorocarbon surfaces. Since the fluorine-carbon chain intermolecular force is extremely low, polytetrafluoroethylene has non-tackiness. PTFE maintains excellent mechanical properties in a wide temperature range of -196~260 ℃, and one of the characteristics of perfluorocarbon polymers is that they are not brittle at low temperatures. PTFE has a high density of 2.14-2.20 g/cm, almost no water absorption, and the equilibrium water absorption is less than 0.01. Polytetrafluoroethylene is a typical soft and weak polymer. The mutual attraction between macromolecules is small, and the stiffness, hardness and strength are small. It will deform under long-term stress.
Characteristics of FP structure of polytetrafluoroethylene ethylene propylene material:
Polyethylene perchloroethylene propylene FEP is a copolymer of tetraethylene and hexafluoropropylene monomers, abbreviated as FEP. Polyethylene perfluoroethylene propylene FEP is a linear polymer. The molecular chain can be regarded as the result that one fluorine atom connected to every four carbon atoms on the main chain of polytetrafluoroethylene is replaced by CF3 group. Compared with polytetrafluoroethylene, the symmetry and regularity of FEP molecular chain are broken, which reduces the rigidity and increases the flexibility of molecular chain, the melting point of the material will decrease, the fluidity will increase, and the heat resistance will also be low.
The destruction of the regularity of FEP will affect the crystallinity of the material, and the crystallinity will be reduced. The FEP molecular chains still do not show polarity. Polyfluoroethylene propylene is a Milky White translucent to transparent body, the density is 2.14-2.179/cm3, only the second child polytetrafluoroethylene, the surface is smooth like wax, the water absorption rate is not more than 0.01.
